Bill Pugh and Lisa Orange Iribe Center Makerspace Fund

This fund supports the Singh Sandbox, a makerspace that provides all UMD students with facilities and a collaborative community focused on iterative design, fabrication, and peer education. The Singh Sandbox is a free-to-use, open-door space dedicated to hands-on learning where students can prototype ideas, explore new technologies, and showcase their work.

Professor Emeritus Bill Pugh and Lisa Orange have been instrumental in advancing UMD’s makerspace initiatives. Their generous support helped establish the original Sandbox makerspace in the Computer Science Instructional Center. They expanded their vision with additional funding for staff and the operation of the new Singh Sandbox in the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering. Their continued dedication has helped position UMD among leading institutions that recognize making as a critical and transformative learning experience.

Your gift to the Bill Pugh and Lisa Orange Iribe Center Makerspace Fund will help sustain and enhance these creative spaces, equipping students with the tools and opportunities to bring their ideas to life.
